Brian

Head Trainer - Brian has been in the health & fitness promotion business for 30+ years and is a certified Personal Trainer and Group Trainer. He has completed certifications in Reebok Cycle, Stability Ball, Reebok Core-Board and Core, Core-Align apparatus, as well Christine Felstead’s Yoga for Runners™ Level 1 and 2. Brian strongly believes Flexibility training is an underestimated component of conditioning and fitness. One of the keys to unlocking your potential as an athlete is maximizing your flexibility. Brian has completed over 20 marathons and 11 Full Ironman Triathlons to date. He is passionate about fitness and nutrition, and has the philosophy that age is not a barrier or excuse. Brian’s never quit attitude, combined with his high energy and exercise creativity and variety will certainly help you along your fitness journey.

Jessica

Jessica was introduced to sports at a young age, she has a great passion for keeping active. She has played, coached, and refereed basketball since the age of 11. Currently enrolled in the University of Alberta, she is pursuing further education in the health industry to educate clients about an active lifestyle. She has 5 years of experience in an authoritative role in community competitive basketball. Passions include running half marathons, coaching basketball, and instructing groups of people to achieve healthier bodies and lives. She believes that Orangetheory is an exciting new concept that can show people where they can take their fitness to the next level.

Karyn

Karyn began her fitness career at age 5, when she laced up her first pair of figure skates. She continued to be an avid figure skater for 12 years. Since then she has begun Olympic weight-lifting, earned certification as a Canfit Pro Group Fitness Instructor, as well as gaining an education in Psychology. Karyn has an infectious competitive drive and “can’t lose” attitude. She has been participating at Orangetheory Fitness since they opened in October, 2012, and believes in the benefits of this unique, sweat-inducing, motivational work-out. In her spare time Karyn enjoys participating in charity runs, golfing, snowboarding, and travelling.

Reka

Reka is an AFLCA trained Resistance Leader with a passion and commitment to health and wellness. Reka has a double degree, both from the University of Alberta, one, from the Faculty of Recreation and Leisure Studies and the other from the Faculty of Nursing (RN). Reka has always lead an active lifestyle through her youth and schooling years, participating in downhill and alpine skiing, hiking, swimming and dance. However, it has been in the last few years that she has narrowed her focus onto high-intensity-interval-training, functional training and weight-lifting. Reka has completed numerous foot races including the Vancouver marathon, FemSport, a women's strength and fitness competition, and most recently the Spartan Sprint. Reka believes in OTF's 5 zone heart-rate based interval training approach as an effective tool to motivate clients in maximizing their efforts and time in the gym. With her welcoming smile, positive attitude, and thirst for knowledge and continuous improvement, she is sure to motive and guide you toward your fitness goals.

Sammy

Sammy is a former professional athlete who played in the CFL with over 15 years’ experience in the training industry. He has represented Canada on World stage 3-times in football. Athlete Training, Team Training, Personal Training has been his focus over the last few years. Sammy’s interest are coaching football, soccer, hot yoga and helping other achieve their fitness goals and living a healthy and active lifestyle.

David Hardy, CEO – OTF Canada Inc.

Dave is the President of Orangetheory Fitness in Edmonton and is a Partner of the Orangetheory Fitness franchise worldwide.  He is also the President of Franvest Capital Partners, a private investment firm that acquires companies as a hands-on, value added investor. In the past 15 years, Franvest has made investments in the retail, food services, manufacturing, real estate and IT industries.

In 1999, Franvest acquired Club Fit, and in 2008 sold the 5 club chain to a private equity firm as part of an industry consolidation. In 2011, Franvest acquired an interest in the Ultimate Fitness Group, LLC, franchisor of Orangetheory Fitness, and in 2012 acquired World Health Edmonton, the leading fitness club chain in the market with 10 clubs.

David is the President of the Fitness Industry Council of Canada (FIC), the trade association that represents the 5,000 fitness clubs in Canada.  He was also a member of the board of directors of the International Health Racquet & Sports Club Association (IHRSA) from 2008 to 2012, the trade association that represents the fitness industry globally (over 11,000 members in 69 countries).

David has an MBA from the University of Toronto, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alberta. David and his wife Erin have four children and he is an avid skier, water skier and cyclist

 

Blake MacDonald, President – OTF Canada Inc.

Blake is a Partner at Orangetheory Fitness and manages the operations in Edmonton, and the President of OTF Canada Inc., the master franchisee of Orangetheory across Canada.   He is also a partner at Franvest Capital Partners, and has been actively involved in the management of the portfolio companies since 1999. He specializes in the development of sales, financial, and operating systems. Blake graduated from the University of Alberta with a Commerce degree (major in Corporate Finance). For much of the past 15 years, Blake was ranked as one of the top male curlers in the world as third for Team Kevin Koe. In 2010, they won both the Brier (Canadian Championship) and World Championships. Blake has since retired from competitive curling. He and his wife Lawnie have two children and together they enjoy curling, golfing and skiing.
